Title: The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim
Operating System: Gentoo Linux AMD64
Compatibility Layer: GameTree Linux (Cedega 2010121)
Recording Software: ffmpeg’s x11grab
This is Skyrim under Gentoo Linux using GameTree Linux. I recorded this with ffmpeg. The framerate is reduced considerably when recording this game. While the in-game cursor is usually smooth it became very choppy when recording and I couldn’t resolve it. Also, the sound desyncs towards the end. This is another thing that kept happening and I could not resolve. As matter of fact, I won that fight a bunch of times but this attempt had the best audio so I decided it would be the video I post. Rest assured that the audio was completely correct in the game itself.
GameTree Linux is a free service provided by Transgaming. It is the continuation of Cedega as a free product. You can obtain GameTree Linux for free by signing up for a developer account. You do not have to be a developer to sign up.
Simply create your account here: https://gametreedeveloper.com/
With that account you will be able to login, download the software, and your client will be able to login to download engines.
Playing Skyrim with GTLinux is very simple. Simply install the game or copy an installation you already have. I am using a steam-free version and you should consider doing the same as Steam support in GTLinux is not guaranteed.
1) You cannot run the game launcher with GTLinux so you will need to set your shortcut to launch TESV.exe directly.
2) After installing the game the following options must be set in your GTLinux GUI for the Skyrim shortcut:
Engine: 2010121 (You must use this engine)
Windows Version: Windows XP
GL Shading Language: Mixed
Pixel/Vertex Shaders: 3.0
Framebuffer Objects: Checked
In the advanced settings I recommend:
General)
Sheduler: Unchecked
Decrease Server Priority: Checked
Accelerated Inter-process Communication: Checked
Graphics)
NV_VAR Extensions: Unchecked
3) After these options are set properly you will be able to launch Skyrim. Once you reach the menu you will find that the mouse cursor always tries to stick to the bottom of the window. Quit the game using the keyboard.
4) At this point you need to copy a settings file into your Skyrim configuration folder. You will find these files in your Skyrim directory: low.ini, medium.ini, high.ini. You cannot use low for the time being because one of the settings in there causes the game to crash very early on. I have not figured out which setting is the cause yet. You should start with medium.ini. Copy the medium.ini to ~/.cedega/GAME_FOLDER/c_drive/Documents and Settings/User/My Documents/My Games/Skyrim/SkyrimPrefs.ini
5) Start the game again. Once you reach the menu you should use your keyboard to quit again. Edit the SkyrimPrefs.ini file.
6)Enable the option “bFull Screen” by setting it to 1. You must run the game in fullscreen mode for the cursor to work. If you would like Skyrim to be in a window like in my video then use the GTLinux interface to put it in a window.
7) Set “iSize W” to your desired screen width and “iSize H” to your desired screen height. For example:
iSize H=1050
iSize W=1680
8) Disable the option “bFloatPointRenderTarget” by setting it to 0. Disabling this option fixes a bug where being lit on fire or lighting someone else on fire causes black squares to appear. You can see that the issue does not occur in my video when I use my fire spell.
9) Save the preferences file and start Skyrim back up. Hopefully the game is running!
You can use higher settings than medium provides. Unfortunately you can’t use the launcher to set them. You will have to hand modify the configuration. Another option is to use the launcher in wine and copy the preferences file over.
Please rate if you like this video. I look forward to making more videos of games running in Linux and Mac OS X.

This is my first and possibly the only arcade project. I basically built it around my old Dell Inspiron 8100 with some mdf board. I bought all the buttons, joystick and keyboard encoder from gremlinsolutions.co.uk
The software I used is Xmame running on Xubuntu 9.04 with WAh!cade frontend.
Hope you enjoy the video, feel free to ask any questions.
