I test it in Ubuntu Linux 10.04 64bit Lucid Lynx Open Source Operating System.

Bodhi Linux v0.1.6 Rc2 is a nice looking minimalistic distro which uses Enlightenment desktop environment. Instead cramming your system full of unnecessary programs, Bodhi provides you with just Firefox 4 beta 11 and Synaptic.
You can select the applications you want easily through Synaptic package manager.
Bodhi have supplied a nice easy to use Setup Wizard to give easy customisation of the Enlightenment desktop, allowing you to choose from: Basic, Compiz enabled, Laptop, or Netbook styles. Theres also some nice looking wallpapers/themes supplied.
Enlightenment has very low system requirements making this Distro ideal for older lower spec machines. However its only available in 32bit version, which makes in unsuitable for higher spec 64bit machines.
Its based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Review done in Virtualbox 4.04
Sorry about the bad edit near the end, I had a coughing fit and ended up with hiccups.
A review of elementary OS Jupiter 0.2 Final Release. elementary OS Jupiter, and the elementary experience in general receives a lot of attention form sites like OMG! Ubuntu etc, and for good reason. The elementary team have created a lightweight and extremely elegent GNOME desktop that will serve as a basis for future innovation. At this point, the main drawcard is the elementary apps, but otherwise, this release is only a tweaked and stripped back Ubuntu 10.10.
Apps like the anticipated Slingshot app Launcher, Plank docky thing, and the desktop shell Pantheon, will not be making a splash at least until the next release.
Linux Magazine’s Senior Software Editor Brockmeier, talks with Ted Gould of Canonical about the upcoming release of Ubuntu Unity. In this interview Ted touches on Unity’s UI design decisions, hardware drivers and bundled software.
Konstantinos Margaritis is a Senior Software Engineer at San Antonio based Genesi, he talks about how Genesi is pushing Linaro forward to recompile all the apps and everything around Linux to use hard float, to re-optimize floating point applications on ARM Powered Desktop/Laptop designs. Watch this video interview to find out how Genesi is doing these software optimizations on Debian for the i.MX51 and i.MX53 platforms in their ARM Powered Smartbook designs. How soon are ARM Powered laptops going to have enough performance optimizations in them to demonstrate that ARM is fast enough to power Desktop/Laptop designs so that every consumer can be satisfied with the performance?
Time Lapse Video of the 2007 Burning Man festival as viewed from the Block Rock Solar “Powertainer”. Be sure and check out the Sequel video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4FxBqHGGq4
Interesting note: You can actually see the Crude Awakening Oil Derrick go up even though it’s about 3/4 mile away! There is a brilliant flash that illuminates the scene. Here is a high resolution still: http://mindfart.com/pic/?crudeawakeningshadow
Background:
I was originally asked by Tom Price to do this timelapse, and I thought it was an awesome idea. It’s been done before by the Folding-Time guys, but they didn’t set up this year. The images were captured by a Canon G3 mounted in a weatherproof housing of my own design up on a 20 foot pole next to the Powertainer. There were 18,486 images shot at 2272×1704 which is almost 4 megapixels each. Some of the full-size stills are stunning! The camera was controlled by a custom Daemon I wrote using the Gphoto library, which ran on the Powertainer’s Slackware linux system and the images were stored full-size on a hard drive. After the event, I ran another piece of code that downsampled the images to 640×480 then composed them at 30fps into a MPEG-4 video. My friend Tom Sepe added the Music and Titles for me and Voila! I hope to make a more portable rig for future use incorporating an embedded Linux System and flash memory. Contact me for more information, to hire me for interesting geekery, or just to geek out. =)
Hey guys. So this video is a little bit different from what I use to upload. This is about the Command Prompt and some of the basic things, you’ll need to know.
Thanks for watching!
Why Flash 10 Sucks on LiEnucks (Full Explanation): http://bit.ly/136Kib
Quote: “Flash is widely reviled by Linux users, who almost universally disdain its proprietary licensing model, lousy performance, excessive resource consumption, poor platform integration, and abysmal lack of stability. Flash is listed by Mozilla’s crash reporting system as the number one cause of Firefox crashes on Linux. On Ubuntu’s brainstorm web site—where Ubuntu users suggest ways that the Linux distribution can be improved—over a thousand users have voted for items that highlight the need to fix Flash’s dysfunctional behavior and frequent crashes.”
Tested on my old laptop, which has the following specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40 GHz
3 GB of RAM
Operating systems tested:
Linux Mint 10 “Julia” – 64 bit
Windows 7 Home Premium – 64 bit
Flash 10 video tested:
“Desktop Linux Sucks, And What We Can Do About It”
Results:
Linux CPU Usage: 40%
Windows 7 CPU usage: 8%
= Windows 7 is 400% (5x = 5 times) faster than Linux.
Conclusion: Windows 7 by far the better operating system to view Flash 10 video, especially if you have an old CPU/processor.
