This tutorial shows how to INSTALL Backtrack 4 to a VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk) in VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation along with VMWare Tools. These steps can be used to install any Linux OS or even Windows OS. Keep in mind, this isn’t the same as referencing an ISO directly but rathering installing the OS as you would on your hard-drive while still remaining Virtual.

I also go over how to change your resolution in Backtrack, login as a root user, and install VMWare Tools.

Review style Screencast Tutorial on How-to setup and get working a MIDI to USB cable + Midi Musical Keyboard + Ubuntu Studio Linux 10.04 32bit + ZynAddSubFX + Jack Audio Connection Kit to build a cheap Home Studio for creating digital electronic Music in Linux with free and open source software.
ZynAddSubFX is a open source software synthesizer capable of making a countless number of instruments, from some common heard from expensive hardware to interesting sounds that you’ll boost to an amazing universe of sounds. I also show Hydrogen working with the Midi device.
JACK Audio Connection Kit is a professional sound server daemon that provides real-time, low latency connections for both audio and MIDI data between applications that implement its API.
I play my MELIDI Mc37 Musical Keyboard instrument which is connected to a AMD Sempron 3000+ PC running UbuntuStudio 10.04 Lucid Lynx to make music while recording the video with my Canon FS200 Digital Camera.

Another song composed by me using Linux and hardware keyboard/synth Yamaha S90. In this recording I routed audio output from Ardour to mastering/equalizing tool “Jammin”. You can see a little of its features here.

Screen zooming is made with Compiz-Fusion windows manager for Linux.

Video is recorded with “recordmydesktop” for Linux, supporting Compiz-Fusion effects too (cool!)

About the song:
Sounds come from my Yamaha S90 Keyboard, played live for each track and recorded via MIDI with Rosegarden sequencer.

Drumming is Hydrogen for Linux

Mastering was made with Ardour, adding some effects to each track (eq, rotary speaker to “space sounds” etc.)
